Nine portraits represent the victims and villains of traditional folk murder ballads. The faces are taken from found turn-of-the-century photographs, and are executed in pieced watercolour-stained felt. Each portrait is embroidered with the lyrics to the ballad that inspired it.

The one-night event at Art System combined Goodchild’s textile portraits with a concert, in which nine female country singers each sang one of the murder ballads.
